---
After carefully surveying students and coordinating with several stakeholder groups, the client asked Hugo & Hoby to craft furniture designs for a new residential hall meant to reflect the values and interests of its diverse student body. Designed by Philadelphia Architecture firm DIGSAU , the new residential hall has 125 rooms connected by 21 communal suites specifically designed for upperclassmen to cook, eat, and spend time together.
The 8-foot standing height communal table in the first floor lounge - a beautiful array of the urban canopy - was crafted from a medley of storm-downed oak trees from Connecticut. The table features USB and power outlets for students to charge phones, tablets, and laptops while working. Entertainment console tables and side tables made from New England White Oak give students a further place to gather in their communal suites while spalted maple coffee tables on hand-welded steel frames complete the balance of work and play!
Finally, students can enjoy sunny, spring afternoons and catch games from handcrafted outdoor cedar tables, benches, and Adirondack chairs on the dorm’s rooftop deck overlooking the softball/baseball field.
